Egalia is a recreation centre for young people who identify as or wonder about being lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender or queer. We that attend Egalia are between 13 and 19 years, and were a mix of bisexuals, transgenders, undecideds, gender benders, dykes, non-defined, queers, homos, gays … the list goes on! Egalia is open every Monday and Thursday between 5 PM to 8 PM.
There are clear rules, for example in school how to be and not be. If you do not fit the requirements of being the guy or girl in the expected manner, or who to fall in love with, it can sometimes be tough and lonely. We think it’s important that everyone knows that they are not alone. Therefore we offer a place where all of us can gather together. At Egalia, we are the ones setting the rules, so that everyone can be who they want to be.
What happens at Egalia?
Egalia works much like an ordinary youth recreation centre. There are always at least three leaders in place that take care of you if you’re new. On a typical evening, there will be between 25 and 40 young people attending Egalia.
Almost always, there is someone new attending, so don’t be afraid to show up!
There is always funny things happening at Egalia. Crafting, lectures, visits from authors, theme nights, theater, movie nights, bowling and other fun events. Every time you also get some food, and a lot of socializing with new people of course!
It’s completely free to attend Egalia and you don’t need be a member in RFSL Stockholm.
The address to Egalia is Sveavägen 59 and the nearest subway station is Rådmansgatan, on the green line. Look for the rainbow flag when you get out of the subway. When you arrive at the door, call for RFSL Stockholm/Egalia.
