In our society, heterosexuality and the biology of conception of the gender are norms. Our children’s statements about their sexuality or gender identity/gender expression may come as a shock. An uncertainty may exist for how others will react. Your own reactions can also be confusing, raising conflicting emotions. Some may feel shame over prejudices that they do not believe they have.
It was partly because of these issues that we started our first parent group in RFSL Stockholm. Today we are the network Proud Parents of LGBTQ children, Stockholm.
You are welcome to contact us with questions both large and small. It can be of great use to talk to someone who has experience with the process of knowing you are the parent of an LGBTQ child. With us, you have the opportunity to meet other parents who in many cases similar experiences in the issues or emotions that you might have. Our email address is firstname.lastname@example.org.
You are welcome to contact us if you want to participate in our theme evenings, study circles or want to receive information from our network via email. You are also welcome to contact us if you are interested in becoming part of our working team and want to know more about what it could mean. On our Facebook page “Stolta föräldrar till homo-, bisexuella och transbarn” we publish news whenever something is happening, so be sure to follow us!
